Organic Biochar Gardening
“Understanding Biochar and how it works will help you get the maximum benefit from adding this wonderful product to your soils.”
Barry Batchelor, Permaculture Designer and award winning gardener.

Biochar is basically a porous particle of fixed carbon which will improve you soils structure and quality.
BlackEarth products premium quality nutrient bonded Biochar is suitable for direct application to soils. Remove mulch and apply directly to your soils, lightly rake in and re-apply your mulch. If you are digging over your garden bed apply the Biochar after turning and lightly rake in. Biochar will benefit most plants and soils if it is applied in the plants root zone.
We often suggest when talking to gardeners that they can super charge our Biochar by adding liquid nutrients like sea kelps, fish liquids or worm juice, mix the nutrient liquid with a bucket of water, tip 5 litres of the liquid into the bucket of Biochar and leave for a few hours before applying. It is also worth while adding compost or mature composted animal manure when applying our Biochar. Think of Biochar as a sponge with billions of tiny holes to fill, so nutrient charging your Biochar will give you great results in your garden much sooner.
